The Right Saddle for You...have you found it yet?
Can you put a price on comfort? For even the occasional cyclist the answer to this is a resounding "NO", and for those of us who spend our lives in the saddle it becomes even more important. Having said this the price of some components essentail to bike comfort, such as the humble saddle, can be quite intimidating due to the intense design work and exotic materials, such as carbon, titanium etc., which go into their manufacture. These very same materials are used in advance aerospace design and formula 1 cars, not so humble after all then.
The route to many enjoyable hours on the bike is comfort and key to this is a good saddle, not just any good saddle but a saddle which is good for YOU. It's all well and good when a saddle gets 10/10 in a magaizine review and is summed up as 'a great saddle for the majority of people' but what happens if you are not part of that majority? You can end up shelling out hundreds of pounds in search of the perfect perch. Here at Keswick Bikes we understand that search, that quest, that journey to enlightenment, and have been through it. Some of us are still on it.
Long before Sella Italia popped up with their 'inovative' demo saddle scheme we have been operating our own demo scheme covering many brands and designs of saddle allowing our customers to try out a range of saddles to find the best for them. Often people are very suprised by what is comfortable, the blade like Specialized Toupe meets with comments such as 'That can't possibly be comfortable', 'Oooo, the lengths people will go to to save a bit of weight', until they give it a try and realise, in this case, less is more. Perhaps your perfect saddle is a £25 Specialized comfort saddle or perhaps a Fizik Aroine Carbon CX at £130, which ever it is, with the oportunity to try before you buy you can be sure your money isn't wasted and you can see how much YOUR right saddle can increase your enjoyment of cycling. As we all know, the more you enjoy it the more you'll do it and that means more people on bikes more of the time, our quest fulfilled.
