Keswick Bikes' Fireworks Party 26 - 28 October 2007
Just some nice photos for those who made the journey up to join us for the Fireworks Fest. Thanks to all of you for making it such a nice event. Our next big biking occassion is The Keswick Mountain Festival coming to a Cumbrian town not too far from KMB Towers 14th - 18th May 2008. More info to come when we get it but currently we have confirmed: Local and national Trailquest Event, Derwent Triathalon, Open 5 Adventure, Bike Rides for kids and grown ups with lots and lots of test bikes to ride.
Keswick Bikes' Fireworks Party 'the aftermath'
Great riding, loads of test bikes from Giant, Trek & Kona, too much food and beer aplenty. Even the weather couldn't put a damper on the fireworks fun! Jon Colborne came all the way from Norfolk. He got to know some of the trails more intimately than he had perhaps intended but found Keswick Breweries' local ale; 'Thirst Blood' to be of help with a sore nose!

2007 8th Annual Solstice Triangle
A wet 5.30am start on Saturday 16th June saw some 30 riders set off in the pouring rain including 5 year old Robyn Vaughn riding a tag - a - long behind her dad. 67 miles later and after stopping off for the mother of all breakfasts in Whitehaven, we returned to Keswick somewhat more weary. The maritime Festival in Whitehaven was simply amazing. Don't miss the next one in 2009 which also commemorates the 10th Solstice Triangle with some very special events lined up for you!

Solstice Triangle: Saturday 16th June 2007 Now in its 8th year Keswick Bikes 'Solstice Triangle' road ride is the easier of two KMB events planned for the weekend of to commemorate the start of National Bike Week. Departing at 5.30am from Castlerigg Stone Circle (4.30am in the past!) provides a great setting to watch the sunrise before setting off. The route then meanders to Cockermouth and Workington, the second point of the triangle, before continuing to witness the bi-annual International Maritime Festival and the flotilla of Tall Ships in Whitehaven harbour and just in time for a hearty breakfast before the return journey to Keswick. Additionally the 2007 Tour De France Road Show will also be present on the harbour. The return leg uses the world famous C2C (Coast to Coast) route via Rowrah, Lorton and Whinlatter Pass (hardest bit) before reaching Keswick for Lunchtime. Tea and flapjack are provided at the Lakeland Pedlar café for all participants. Route Summary: Distance 70 miles of relatively easy riding on mostly quiet country lanes and Sustrans cycle tracks (but the event is not suitable for children). Route maps will be available on request at all Keswick Bikes locations.
The Lakeland Six: Sunday 17th June 2007 Why not make a full weekend of it by also joining the ride on Sunday. The ride departs the Lakeland Pedlar Café from 8am. Unlike the Fred Whitton, this ride is not a timed competitive event and the riders that have completed both rides say the Big 6 is a nicer, comparatively easier ride - though not to be underestimated. Completion times vary between 7 and 12 hours depending on your fitness and number of tea stops! Ambleside makes for a good morning coffee stop (Zeferellis), whilst the Train Station cafe at Dalegarth, Eskdale which is ideal for lunch and allows the option to get to the cafe at Whinlatter Visitor Centre before 5pm for afternoon tea. (Ride description: Keswick - Troutbeck - Glenridding - Kirkstone Pass - Ambleside - Wrynose Pass - Hardknott Pass - Gosforth - Cold Fell - Loweswater - Lorton - Whinlatter Pass - Braithwaite - Newlands Hause - Buttermere - Honister Pass - Keswick - 97 miles riding, 10,000 feet climbing) Those not sure about completing the whole ride can miss out Whinlatter and Newlands Passes, instead finishing with Honister Pass, making it the Lakeland 4, still a superb and demanding ride that you will remember for years to come. Triple chainsets or low gearing is advisory! The finish is again the Lakeland Pedlar café for a final, deserved, round of tea and cakes. Route Summary: Distance 97 miles in total and includes climbs amassing 10,000 feet by the time you return to Keswick! The event does not have vehicular support so you must be self sufficient (not suitable for children).
